In 2004, we met a very fine Afghan lady who was in charge of a girls orphanage. At that time there were about 12 girls living in the orphanage ranging from age 4 to 11 years. Today, the orphanage houses 31 girls from ages 3 to 17. Several of the same girls are still there, growing into beautiful, young, Afghan ladies. Each time a team visits the girls, games are played, songs are sung, stories are told, and gifts such as hygiene products are given. Financial help is also occasionally given to aid in the purchase of meat to supplement the girls' diet. These wonderful girls are all attending school, learning English along with their local language of Dari, and are wondering what the future holds for them.
As the end of the year draws near, please remember these precious girls, their needs and their dreams. Maybe some of them could receive an education scholarship from SRD if the funds are available! In addition to hygiene products, the girls are in need of socks and shoes. Winter is harsh in Afghanistan. Warm socks and sturdy shoes would be such a blessing!
